The first thing of note as to why it fails as a comedy scenario is that Robert is frequently and near constantly in a state of perpetual misery in fact, he's at the exact same level of miserable throughout the whole episode, sobbing and crying and shit. As it turns out, he got a bad mortgage on the house and the interest rate skyrocketed they aren't just poor, the Freeman's are millions of dollars in debt! I've heard stories of people falling for scams like this and losing damn near everything because the weren't careful enough their lives are RUINED thanks to scam artists like this! And this episode is going to repeatedly try to play a bleak scenario like this for comedy without any sense of irony or even any attempt to be funny! Worst part is THIS is what then chose for an overarching story for the ENTIRE SEASON! They even brought this up in the episode 'Lovely Ebony Brown'.ДЄnyways, now to get into the actual episode: the episode begins right off the bat with Robert Freeman telling Huey and Riley they're moving out of Woodcrest because he got scammed over the Internet. Each episode, while sometimes referenced, was largely self-contained. Stinkmeaner and recurring characters like Ed Wuncler Sr. None of the other seasons of The BoondocksВ really had overarching stories or plot elements beyond Colonel H. Actually, that's too high a complement this season encompasses every single fucking trap shows going through seasonal rot go through at one time or another, and they all converge in the first episode!ДЇirst off, the first episode of the season was aired as the SECOND! This is bad because this is the episode you have to watch in order to understand the seasons overarching plot, and the entire season was aired out of whack like this! The actual final episode 'Early Bird Special' was aired as the 4th rather than as the 10th episode! Oh yeah, this season has an overarching plot as if it's an anime of some sort. Yeah, this ended up becoming Modern SpongeBobВ in a nutshell. And this was the only season to not have Aaron McGruder involvement in any way whatsoever. The fourth season of this show didnвЂ™t premiere until at least 4 years after the show had been believedВ to be canceled after the 3rd season. Aaron McGruder, the comic's creator, was also the head writer of every single episode for the first 3 seasons, hence their consistent and very high quality this was an adaptation that didn't give its original creator the shaft. It's one of the only shows I know that can use the n-word and still be classy about it. Much like the comic strip it was based off of, it dealt with heavy themes of racism and satire of all types to make fun of many of the conventions of modern society and 'white people problems' as a whole. For those unaware, The BoondocksВ was perhaps the most poignant, relevant and intelligent adult cartoon of the 2000s era.
